A review of new productions of Uncle Vanya and the Threepenny Opera. The opera being peformed at London's Donmar Warehouse is by Bertold Brecht and Kurt Weill and is based on the Beggars Opera, first performed 200 years earlier. The new play is set in the future, in 2001 when King William ascends the throne of England. Also in the programme a review of Chekhov's Uncle Vanya, a film by Louis Malle.
