A look at the reconstruction after the aftermath of the Izmit earthquake in 1999. The Izmit earthquake of August 17, 1999 devastated the region, killing more than 18,000 people and leaving many more homeless. It took several years for the city to recover; but the scars, especially on the memories of the residents can still be observed.
