Rails, Meningitus & EU Information
Start your day with the latest news and updates, with Jim and Jo at breakfast.
It was the controversial transport plan which we were told would bring us 'all of the pain for none of the gain'. But now, we're being told HS2 could actually play a major part in boosting our economy here in Leicestershire by tens of millions of pounds a year. Not so long ago, the leaders of our two biggest local councils dismissed HS2 - the High-Speed rail link between London, Birmingham and the North - as damaging and detrimental to our county. Now though, County Council leader Nick Rushton and City Mayor Sir Peter Soulsby have come together to tell us why we should now embrace HS2 and, importantly, use it as a way of opening up our full rail potential right across our county.
Also, more than 700,000 people have now signed a petition, calling for all children to be given the meningitis B vaccine. The campaign was set up by Lee Booth, following the death of 2 year-old Faye Burdett in Kent. She died on Valentines day, just days after developing a ash on her forehead. It's now become Britain's most signed online petition. So are parents here in Leicester worried?
And, the countdown has begun, there are exactly 4 months to go until Britain will decide whether to stay, or whether to leave the EU. It's a big decision, and as politicians begin to take sides - it's not quite clear which way the British public will vote. But from today, students and lecturers in politics at De Montfort University will be finding out the thoughts of people Leicester by opening a special pop-up shop in the Highcross shopping centre.
Also in the show, find out why one Leicestershire village wants a Queen for the day, to celebrate an important date later this year.
