The Suez Crisis in 1956. When Israeli forces launched an attack on Egypt, Britain and France followed suit. However dissent in both parliament and the UK population increased against the Prime Minister Anthony Eden. Following intense international pressure there was a ceasefire, and Eden later resigned.
