Child Abuse, Taxis & Panthers

Start your day with the latest news and updates, with Jim and Jo at breakfast.

Some of Leicester's most notable figures are to sign up to a pledge to end child sexual exploitation in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. CEASE- the Commitment to Eradicate Abuse and Sexual Exploitation- is being launched today, and has the backing of Bend It Like Beckham star Parminder Nagra, X-Factor winner Sam Bailey, as well as a host of religious, business and political leaders across our area. Its aimed at raising greater awareness of abuse, as well as increasing the importance of spotting the signs and reporting offences. The CEASE campaign is being supported by around 2-million pounds from the Police and Crime Commissioner Sir Clive Loader's new budget for Leicestershire Police.
Also, taxi drivers who've been protesting a new penalty points scheme in Leicester held a public meeting last night. They've held a number of go-slow protests in the city centre, causing considerable delays on the roads during rush hour. Sir Peter Soulsby was amongst those invited by the RMT Union to last night's meeting at Central Mosque but the City Mayor did not attend. 麻豆社 Radio Leicester's Christian Hill did go to the meeting, where the RMT's Steve Headley was among those who addressed the audience.
And, imagine a sporting team of underdogs ... Who after years of obscurity suddenly find themselves at the top of their league. But it's not the familiar story of the Foxes we're talking about this morning, but American Football team the Carolina Panthers. They've been spurred on to a run away season which this weekend has seen them reach the Superbowl, The Championship game. And it's led to an interesting relationship with our own high-flying sports team- Leicester City! The two have exchanged messages of support on social media, they've swapped team jerseys, and City striker Shinji Okazaki even adopted the famous "dab" goal celebration when he scored against Everton earlier this season. So with the Panthers and the Foxes forming somewhat of a unlikely friendship, we thought we'd form on of our own with Carolina local Radio WFAE. Despite being 5 hours behind us, I managed to convince Reporter Dave Boraks to stay up late and tell me a little about the Panthers.
