Junior doctors 'have no option but to strike' - Labour MP
Junior doctors "have no other option but to strike", shadow Treasury minister Richard Burgon has said, as he criticised the government's handling of the dispute.
The planned walk-out begins across England on Tuesday at 08:00 GMT, in a row over pay and conditions.
Speaking to the Daily Politics, Mr Burgon said "no-one wanted to see a strike taking place" but the government had treated junior doctors "appallingly". He said he would have joined the picket line if he did not have to be in Parliament on Tuesday.
Conservative Mims Davies said the government was offering junior doctors "a better deal", and that some did not seem to have "a full handle" on what was being offered.
The "communication breakdown" was "a real concern", she said, but told the programme: "Let's hope some sanity prevails and hopefully everyone can come back to the table and avert this [strike]."
