Janner, Pancreatic Cancer & Glenn Frey

Start your day with the latest news and updates, with Jim and Jo at breakfast.

It's hoped a new inquiry - into the former Leicester MP, Greville Janner - will finally provide his alleged victims with an opportunity to reveal what happened to them. The former peer had been charged with numerous allegations of historic child sex offences, but died last month before a trial could be held. Last night, it was announced he would be subject of a separate investigation by the ongoing Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse, being overseen by Justice Lowell Goddard.
Also, doctors from the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust are hoping the creation of a new tissue bank could help in the fight against an aggressive form of cancer. Around 9000 in the UK are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer every year, and just 5 percent of them will survive for more than 5 years. 73 year old Cliff Pettifor was diagnosed with the disease back in 2009 and thought he was going to die. He's been telling 麻豆社 Radio Leicester's Christian Hill what happened next.
And, Glenn Frey, a founding member and guitarist of the Eagles, has died in New York. He was 67. He'd recently had surgery for intestinal problems. He co-wrote and sang some of the biggest hits of the 1970s, including "Take It Easy," "Tequila Sunrise," "Lyin' Eyes," and "Heartache Tonight". After the band broke up in 1980, he launched a successful solo career with hits including "You Belong to the City" and "The Heat Is On". The surviving band members and Glenn Frey's family issued a joint statement saying "words can neither describe our sorrow, nor our love and respect for all that he has given to us, his family and millions of fans worldwide".

Also in the show, a Leicestershire couple are once again having to flag up piles of dog poo in their neighbourhood because they say nothing is being done about it. But should new technology be used to solve this age old problem? And we'll be finding out why one village running club in Leicestershire is going from strength to strength.
