Top Horse Denied Human Sports Award
American Pharoah won the Triple Crown in 2015, the first horse to do so in 37 years. Having raced to victory in three classic races, Sports Illustrated included him as one of 12 candidates for their Sportsman of the year award.
Readers could vote for their winner, but ultimately the magazine's own panel decided the victor.
The horse ran away with the readers poll, receiving 47% of the vote, however Serena Williams was ultimately given the honour.
Keith Chamlin, the Chief Operating officer of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association in the United States, gives us his reaction.
