Increase in 'public health' funerals

The number of "public health" funerals, when people die alone or without anyone who can pay, has doubled in the last year in the Ipswich borough area.

So far this year the borough council has had to deal with 25 funerals, compared to a previous average of about 10 to 12 a year.

Nationally there's been an 11% rise in the number, with a total cost last year of 拢1,700,000.
