The Inquiry: Have we Underestimated Plants?
Plants are far more sophisticated than you might think. They can respond to more than a dozen different stimuli and even make what look to some like complex 鈥榙ecisions鈥�.
New research suggests plants might be capable of more than many of us might expect. Some 鈥� controversially 鈥� even describe plants as 鈥渋ntelligent鈥�, or even 鈥渟entient鈥�. In this excerpt from The Inquiry, Professor Daniel Chamovitz - Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences at Tel Aviv University - explains how plants, despite not having brains, are able to make 鈥渄ecisions鈥� and exchange information. He warns that failing to understand how plants work could have devastating consequences for the human race.
