Trokosi Women of Ghana
The girls given in slavery to religious shrines to atone for offences committed by others
In the practice of trokosi young girls are given, against their will, to serve - physically and sexually - at a religious shrine and continue to be held to atone for the offences committed by relatives.
Before it was made illegal in 1998, there were thought to be up to 30,000 trokosi in the fetish religion in Ghana.
