The Mayan Indians

The victimisation of Mayan Indians by the Guatemalan army in the 1980s

How in the early 1980s, when opposition to right-wing regimes spread through Central America, the Guatemalan army intensified its campaign against a small guerrilla force, and brutally victimised Mayan Indians.

"What they would do, is come to the house and rape the women, the wives and the daughters, in front of the men. Soon massacres were occurring in different towns" says eyewitness Quan Juarez.
