Junior Doctors, Car Parks & CPR

Start your day with the latest news and updates, with Jim and Jo at breakfast.

Trainee doctors in Leicester have told us many are considering working overseas, because of new changes being brought in by the government - which they're describing as demoralising, and unsafe. At the moment, they earn extra if they work outside of 7am to 7pm on weekdays. But from next year, newly-qualified doctors in England will have to sign up to a new contract, extending the so-called "sociable working hours" to 10pm, and to include Saturdays. A demonstration will be held in London this weekend - opposing the plans.

Also, Leicester's mayor says they'll decide what's right for the old Granby Halls site, and not just accept the highest bidder. It comes after the city council announced it would be putting the site - at the junction of Welford and Aylestone Road - up for sale. In the last few years it's been used by NCP as a car park. But now, Leicester's mayor - Sir Peter Soulsby - says the time is right to sell.

And, would you be able to save somebody's life if they had a heart attack? Every year, more than 30 thousand people suffer a cardiac arrest outside of hospital, and tragically - fewer than one in ten of them survive. The majority happen at home, but would you be confident administering CPR? The British Heart Foundation is launching a campaign today, to teach these life saving skills in schools.
