Ørjan Matre: preSage (world premiere of this version)
With the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Andrew Litton.
Orjan Matre writes: ‘preSage was commissioned by the Oslo Philharmonic, to be performed at a concert also containing Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring. I have therefore decided to establish a vague but hopefully perceivable link to Stravinsky, although the outright references are few and far between. From the short interlude, ‘The Sage’, I have derived a simple two-note rhythm and a string harmonic chord. These two elements make the basis for the rhythmic and harmonic structures throughout the piece.’
