Government to roll-out superfast broadband to rural areas
'It's not straightforward, there are many technological challenges', said Ed Vaizey
The government is announcing that more than three million homes and businesses have been reached by the Government鈥檚 nationwide rollout of superfast broadband. The investment specifically targets areas which are hard to reach, particularly in rural parts of the country. Currently 80 per cent of the country has superfast broadband. The government wants to reach 95% by 2017.
Simon Jacks met Steve, a farmer in Devon, who said that his business suffers from the slow broadband speed in the area.
He calls it 'scandalous' and blames 'ineptitude by local government, who failed to negotiate a contract with BT'.
Ed Vaizey, Minister of State for Culture and the Digital Economy, says the government plans to reach '100% coverage of the country by the end of this parliament'.
