The Bombing of Hiroshima
It is 70 years since US forces launched the world's first ever atomic bomb attack, on the Japanese town of Hiroshima. Shuntaro Hida was a young doctor working in the Japanese army at the time. On the day the bomb fell, he was called away to a neighbouring village to treat a patient. That unplanned journey would save his life. In the immediate aftermath of the bomb, he rushed back towards Hiroshima amid the chaos and destruction to help treat more than 6,000 of the injured. He spoke to Witness about the horror of that day.
