Roy Blowers’s Story
Roy Blowers from Cotgrave is 90-years-old. He served on the HMS AJAX during the war.
When a 1,000 bomb landed in engine room B it was towed to Gibraltar to be fixed. When it set sail again, the crew thought they were going home, but this wasn't the case.
They ended up in Brooklyn , New York where the ship went into dock for further repairs. During this time, Roy struck up a friendship with a local woman.
Roy was then trained for D-Day and landed at Gold Beach in Arromanches. He was in Germany on VE Day
