Phoenix Park, Dublin: Royal Hibernian Military School
What is now St Mary鈥檚 Hospital, in the grounds of Phoenix Park in Dublin, used to be a military school for the children of soldiers serving in the British Army. For over 150 years it taught and cared for children, at times both boys and girls, often saving them from poverty. When the war broke out, it was home to 410 boys who were schooled and disciplined according to a military hierarchy.
