La Liga - Who deserves the TV money?
Former FC Barcelona Chief Marketing Officer explains why following the English Premier League's more equal system would make La Liga becoming a more attractive brand.
Former FC Barcelona Chief Marketing Officer and CEO of Prime Time Sport, Esteve Calzada, explains why following the English Premier League's more equal system of sharing TV Rights revenues would make La Liga a more attractive brand.
He told Ed Harry that "every single match of the premier league is attractive to be sold overseas" but that isn't the same in La Liga where overseas audiences "only want to watch Barcelona or Real Madrid".
Speaking after the country's 42 professional football clubs have given their government up to 12 more days to change the way that television money is distributed before they initiate strike action Calzada explained "there is no 'La Liga Brand' it's just Barcelona and Real Madrid".
At the moment those two clubs negotiate their own, seperate deals, which has lead to a huge gap between 'the big two' and the rest of the clubs who want a collective agreement that distributes broadcast revenue more evenly.
