How listeners in Australia kept up with the Ashes back in 1934

Did you know Australian Radio was the pioneers of cricket commentary? Well for Australia's tour of England in 1934 when overseas communications were still very limited an ingenious system was developed. Details of each ball were relayed from the ground in England to a studio in Australia by telex. These descriptions were then repeated by the commentary team in Sydney. Blocks of wood would be tapped to simulate the sound of bat of ball and crowd effects added from a vinyl record as Jim Maxwell explains.
