Cardinal Vincent Nichols said he was dismayed that immigration was such a big issue in this election.

He added we are talking about people, 'we have to somehow keep the human person at the front of all of these issues' The cardinal said the vast majority of immigrants come here and work hard and make a very positive contribution and 'that's the tone in which we should be having this debate'
