AP McCoy: sister “had no idea” he was retiring
The 19-times champion jockey AP McCoy has announced that he will retire at the end of the season.
McCoy announced the news after claiming his 200th winner of the season on Mr Mole in the Betfair Price Rush Chase at Newbury on Saturday.
His sister Anne-Marie McCormick heard the news on the television, just like everybody else she said:
“I just didn’t expect it today…it’s hard to believe that you won’t see his name in the paper every day…we’re just full of so many emotions. He’s been an inspiration to everyone.”
Mrs. McCormick said her brother would miss the camaraderie and thrill of the sport but will be able to spend more time with his wife Chanelle and two young children; Eve and Archie.
