Goto murder: Japan never spoke with IS says advisor
Tomohiko Tanaguchi, a special advisor to the cabinet of the Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe's told 5 live on Sunday that despite suggestions to the contrary Tokyo was never in direct communication with Islamic State.
Paying ransoms for the two hostages -Kenji Goto and Haruna Yukawa - wasn't a possibility, Mr Tanaguchi said.
Japan was, Mr Tanaguchi told Dotun Adebayo, committed to working with countries in the region to support their response to the humanitarian crisis caused by Islamic State's actions.
