Today programme guest editor Lenny Henry is fascinated by the ethnic minority voters who are attracted to UKIP despite, or perhaps because of, its stance on immigration.

Henry spoken to UKIP's communities spokesman, the MEP Amjad Bashir, whose father came here as a migrant worker from Pakistan in the 1950s.

Mr Bashir told Henry: "My dad, being a mill worker, was the IT worker of today. He had a lot of affection for this country."

"We want people here that have the skills that this country needs, like doctors, like nurses, like IT, like bankers."

On racism within the party, he said: "In my two and a half years of involvement ...I've met lots of people, I've stayed in their houses, I've shared meals with them and I've not encountered racism."
