Today's Jim Naughtie spoke to Caitlin Moran, author of 'How to Build a Girl' and 'How to be a Woman', and Samantha Shannon, a young novelist and author of 'the Bone Season' in defence of young adult fiction.

Caitlin Moran said "the majority of it is written by and read by women, and this is the problem with anything women do, is that it's looked down on, even though it sells more." She pointed out that "there are no categories for male fiction."

Samantha Shannon agreed that it was a "ludicrous idea" that all YA (Young Adult Fiction) was bad, stating that it often provides a "sense of adventure".
