New hovercraft for the Solent
Any school boy can tell you that the hovercraft was conceived, designed and built by Sir Christopher Cockerell on the Isle of Wight.
So it's fitting that one of the only regular passenger services in the world connects the Island with the mainland.
Hovertravel operates between Ryde and Southsea, and next year it celebrates its 50th anniversary.
Recently they announced that they have two brand new craft under construction for the cross Solent route - well today a select few people were invited to see them being built in Southampton.
Griffon Hoverwork's engineering director Mike Chalkley explained to 麻豆社 Radio Solent's reporter Neil Sackley how Cockerell's original design has been updated...
