A newspaper article about "Richard and Judy's suicide pact" was "ridiculous", Richard Madeley has said.

The TV and radio presenter clarified his position on assisted dying saying he would only help his wife end her own life if she was ill and in sound mind.

Referring to Lord Falconer's private members bill over assisted dying, Madeley said he believed the majority of the public agreed with the general sentiment and it was "pushing at an open door".
