Bradbourne, Derbyshire: Thankful Village
Bradbourne is Derbyshire’s only ‘thankful village’, sometimes known as a ‘blessed village’. There are 51 such places in the UK.
They were called thankful villages as every member who went to war returned. In Bradbourne; 18 men went to the front and came back home. At the time it’s thought around 100 people lived in the village.
Today, Bradbourne is very proud of its history – its residents are keen to find out more. They are only aware of the names of three of the 18 men and keen for information on the others.
