Birmingham Mail columnist defends her 'domestic violence' views
Birmingham Mail columnist Maureen Messent caused a storm of controversy when she wrote that victims of domestic violence should be held accountable for choosing to stay with their partner. She said women decide their own fates and should just leave. There was a massive backlash to what she said and the newspaper鈥檚 editor distanced themselves from her comments by saying that her views are her own and not those of the paper.
Pete Morgan spoke to Maureen to ask why she wrote the article and why she doesn't understand why people are angry at her. Pete also spoke to a survivor of domestic violence who questioned the columnist's point of view.
