Ukraine's Economic Dilemma
Ukraine's economy is in a fragile state. Who will it turn to for help? And will it be a bridge or a barrier between Russia and the EU? Plus Colm O'Regan on borrowing money.
Ukraine's economy is in a fragile state and the turmoil of the last three months has intensified its difficulties. At the root of the political conflagration lie the issue of trade and markets and the struggle between the EU and Russia over the countries that lie between them, from the Baltic to the Caspian. Europe woos them with unbridled capitalism and economic reform, Russia offers a single market to Vladivostok and beyond. Will Ukraine be a bridge or a barrier?
Jamie Robertson is joined by Kristo Karmaan, co-founder of Transferwise, Canadian MP and former journalist, Chrystia Freeland, and Andrei Kortunov, President of the Moscow based Eurasia Foundation to discuss whether Ukraine will be a bridge or a barrier. Plus, as Ukraine looks to the IMF for financial help, regular commentator Colm O'Regan reflects on the strings attached to borrowing money from family and friends.
