Kegworth - 25 years on: Chris's Story

Chris Thompson was one of the survivors of British Midland Flight 92 that crashed.

Twenty five years ago this week, Chris Thompson was looking forward to getting home to Belfast after visiting the London Boat Show.

He was one of 126 people on board British Midland flight 9-2 from Heathrow to Belfast when it crashed into the M1 motorway, just north of the village of Kegworth here in Leicestershire.

Chris survived. But 47 others perished and 74 passengers and crew were seriously injured.

The plane suffered engine failure and was trying to make an emergency landing at East Midlands Airport.

But it crashed-landed a few hundred feet short of the runway onto a busy M1.

Chris has spent the last 25 years fighting for improvements to passenger safety. It's a night he constantly relives and it's one which has shaped his life ever since.

His is one of a number of stories we're telling in the run-up to the 25th anniversary of the Kegworth Air Disaster when Jim Davis and Jonathan Lampon will be in Kegworth with some of those who, like Chris Thompson, were involved one way of another.

Hear Chris's story who recalls how, soon after boarding his flight home, he was relaxing with a meal and glass of wine....
