People Power
How can ordinary people make sure their economy delivers benefits for all? Plus, Colm O'Regan on managing people's expectations.
This week we are talking people, power and economics. We have seen people in Ukraine, Thailand, and of course South Africa, making their voices heard. It has been for different reasons, but money and livelihoods have been at the heart of their concerns. But when a government listens and takes a populist line - does that necessarily translate into a fairer economy? How do you develop an economy that delivers benefits for all and not just an elite? Manuela Saragosa is joined by Soledad Arellano, Vice Minister for Social Development in Chile, professor of economics and public policy at the Blavatnik School of Government, Paul Collier, and Richard Konteh, chief of staff of the office of the president of Sierra Leone. Plus, Colm O'Regan on managing the people's expectations.
