India Floods
The authorities in India say about three thousand people are still missing following the devastating floods and landslides which hit the north of the country. The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand State has said the exact number of those killed may never be known as many bodies may have been washed away or buried under tonnes of debris.
Nearly a thousand people, mostly Hindu pilgrims and tourists, are known to have died in the disaster. Hundreds of people are still trapped in remote mountainous areas after the flash floods in the Himalayan state, which is home to some of the holiest Hindu religious sites.
