Beryl Bainbridge
Psychiatrist Dr Anthony Clare speaks to novelist Beryl Bainbridge, and talks about her desire to create stories that resonate with black humour and dark undercurrents. (1983)
The novels of Liverpool-born author Beryl Bainbridge have always drawn on her own life. Psychiatrist Dr Anthony Clare tries to unpick the motivation behind her desire to create stories that resonate with black humour and dark undercurrents. Bainbridge welcomes the discussion as, she confesses, she has recently experienced writer's block, but can Dr Clare uncover the 'real' Beryl Bainbridge?
