After one of the greatest years in British sporting history, Sue Barker, Gary Lineker and Clare Balding present the 2012 麻豆社 Sports Personality of the Year, from the ExCel Arena in London. In front of a crowd of over 15,000 people, this star-studded event features some of the greatest names in world sport, with the evening culminating in the presentation of one of the most coveted awards in sport, which is chosen by viewers live on the night.
There is so much to look back on from the last 12 months, and the 2012 麻豆社 Sports Personality of the Year should be quite a night. As well as the main accolade of Sports Personality of the Year, other awards include a very special Lifetime Achievement Award, honouring a true sporting legend. Further awards are made to the Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Overseas Sports Personality, Young Sports Personality of the Year, Sports Unsung Hero and the Helen Rollason Award which recognises courage, achievement and the ability to inspire others in the face of adversity.
There are 12 contenders for the 麻豆社 Sports Personality of the Year award this year - which is more than usual - and that's because this year has been an extraordinary one. In 2012, Britain enjoyed great success in hosting arguably the greatest Olympics and Paralympics in living memory, with Team GB and Paralympics GB winning medals galore.
The programme looks back at all the great moments from a sizzling summer of sport, as well as reviewing the most exciting end to a Premier League title race ever. There will also be the chance to see again Chelsea's incredible Champions League victory, and Wales's third Grand Slam in eight years. And just when you thought 2012 had it all, there was the most amazing comeback by Europe, who stunned the USA to win the Ryder Cup.
