Bruce visits the D-Day museum and meets a Falklands veteran.

In a short series for Â鶹Éç Radio Solent, Bruce Parker taps into the south's rich history.

With the help of those in the know from across Hampshire Dorset and the Isle of Wight and using Â鶹Éç South’s archive.

This week Bruce looks at two major military conflicts that impacted on the South.

He visits Portsmouth’s D-Day Museum, where he takes a tour of the Overlord Embroidery and sees a reconstruction of D-Day headquarters at Southwick.

And from the archives, John Snagge, Frank Gillard, Richard Dimbleby and Stanley Maxted.

Bruce is also joined in the studio by Derek ‘Smokey’ Cole, a veteran of the 1982 Falklands conflict and Ron Hancock who worked at Southampton docks as the merchant ships were being prepared.

For those travelling across the south of England today, there is travel news as it happens.

Â鶹Éç Radio Solent offers a choice of listening on a Sunday evening, with Bruce on 96.1 and 103.8FM, on 999 and 1359 AM and on the Â鶹Éç iPlayer.
