Janina Examines the Beautiful Alphonso Psalter

Prince Alphonso's Psalter was commissioned as a wedding gift in 1284 for King Edward I's son and heir the ten year old Prince Alphonso, who was to wed a Countess from the Netherlands.

The book is full of fantastical characters adorned in bright colours; from a figure wrestling with a lion to an image of a Mermaid, it is designed to delight and intrigue a young boy.
