New Waitrose and John Lewis get go-ahead in Ipswich

Ipswich Borough Council gives the green light to Waitrose and John Lewis to build on the old Cranes site on Nacton Road.

The final green light has been given for a new John lewis store and Waitrose Supermaket in Ipswich. The borough council's planning committee voted through the application today for the former Cranes site off Nacton Road. Jon speaks to Carol Jones, the councillor in charge of economic development and planning and asks if this is good or bad news for Ipswich.

An Ipswich taxi driver is recovering after being assaulted on an early morning pick-up. He was threatened with a knife - and assaulted with a baseball bat. John speaks to Detective Inspector Stuart Selby from Ipswich CID.

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has been banned for eight matches. He was found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United's Patrice Evra during a match at Anfield in October.
