Jonathan Dimbleby on patrol with the Bolivian Navy
Bolivia may be land-locked but Bolivians retain an overwhelming passion for the sea. Their navy of around 5000 personnel is testament to the nation's desire to regain a Pacific coastline lost in the 1879 war with neighbouring Chile. Jonathan spends a day with Vice Admiral Carnero putting navy divers through their paces on Lake Titicaca, high on the Altiplano to the north of the capital La Paz. Ongoing efforts to negotiate sea access with Chile are a constant source of friction and Bolivian President, Evo Morales, has threatened to take the case to the International Court in the Hague if a diplomatic solution cannot be found.
