Redevelopement of Reading's Abbey Ruins

Plans for an eight million pound redevelopment of the area around Reading's Abbey Ruins have been unveiled. Andrew speaks to the people who are making this happen including Andrew Cumpsty.

Plans for an eight million pound redevelopment of the area around Reading's Abbey Ruins have been unveiled.

They've been closed to the public for 2 years because they're unsafe.

But, if funding can be secured, they'll form the centre piece for a new "Abbey Quarter" in Reading.

麻豆社 Radio Berkshire's Nicki Whiteman was at the Abbey ruins this morning and was joined by local historian Jane Walton who told Nicki how important the Abbey is in Reading's History.

Andrew Cumpsty is the leader of Reading Borough Council. 8 million pounds is a lot of money, Andrew Peach asked him where it's coming from.

Julia Boorman is from the Friends of Reading Abbey and thinks that this could put the Abbey back on the map.
