Smart squid

Caribbean reef squid can think themselves out of a tight spot when a barracuda is on the scene. To match their surroundings, they cleverly change their appearance both in texture and colour. It is an instant transformation that is directly controlled by the brain. To the predator, it seems that they have simply disappeared. The squid also communicate to tell each other when the danger has passed. They have an entire language based on skin tones. For modern cephalopods, brainpower has overcome the need for a protective shell.
