Addictions and public transport

What can't you live without? Also, what's so good/bad about public transport?

A new study shows that junk food is as addictive as cocaine....what can't you live without? The gym? Chocolate? Football/tabloid scandals?
Plus, the government is planning to introduce smartcards for bus and train travel across the UK...what would it take for you to use public transport more often? What have you observed from other cities/countries that we can adapt/borrow/copy?
