Swingers and Singers - nostalgic music from a time when songs had a real melody.
On "Swingers & Singers" this week, David Lowe marks the birthday anniversaries of four notable figures from mid-20th Century popular music.
The programme opens with a musical tribute to lyricist Howard Dietz, after which there are tributes to lyricist Arthur Freed, plus film and recording star Dick Haymes and singer, songwriter and musician Mel Torme.
In addition to a total of six recordings from Dick Haymes plus four from Mel Torme, along the way, there芒聙聶ll also be individual offerings from Fred Astaire; Bing Crosby; Anne Shelton; Vera Lynn; Judy Garland and Ella Fitzgerald, plus British dance band recordings from Jack Jackson; Lew Stone; Maurice Winnick; Debroy Somers and Ambrose.
