What is spin?
How news stories can be contrived or ‘spun’ in a certain way to get the right kind of coverage in newspapers and the broadcast media. Is image more important than what a politician says? Alistair Campbell talks about the press appearance of Tony Blair in Downing Street soon after the birth of his son Leo, when he was dressed informally and carried a mug of tea displaying a family picture. It was claimed this was totally spontaneous, but journalist Nick Davies has his doubts. How authentic were press pictures of David Cameron cycling to work? They implied the Leader of the Conservatives was highly eco-friendly, until the back-up vehicle carrying all his papers was spotted. The narrator is Simon Thomson.
