His Finest Hour
Professor Richard Holmes retraces Winston Churchill's steps to the East End streets he visited during the Blitz, and to his stately home where he wooed the American Ambassador.
When Hitler stood poised to invade Great Britain, it was Churchill's military strategy, incredible attention to detail, and - above all - inspiring words which kept Britain holding on during the Blitz. Churchill pressed for the supremely risky evacuation at Dunkirk rather than allowing the army to surrender. On the Home Front, he showed an understanding of his people that won him huge respect. Professor Richard Holmes retraces Churchill's steps to the East End streets he visited during the Blitz, and to the stately home where he wooed the American Ambassador as part of his strategy to draw the United States into the War.
