Entwined
The only snake in Briatin that can cause any harm is the adder. You almost certainly wouldn't die from a bite, but it is never the less our only venomous snake. So what is it that bothers people so much about snakes? It seems to be partly what snakes don't have rather than what they do: no fur, no visible ears, no eyelids, no legs, no real tail - in fact they're more like one long tail. One of Bill's daughters described snakes as 'tubes of death'. Cold-blooded reptiles they may be, but during the mating season adders put on one of nature's spectacles. This entwining display is not one of affection however. It's a battle of dominance between two males to win over a female.
