At one minute past midnight on Tuesday 8th May 1945, World War II in Europe was formally declared to have ended.

To mark that occasion, this edition of Swingers and Singers features some of the great songs and melodies that helped to keep wartime spirits up among, not only the soldiers, sailors and airmen, but the civilian population as well.

Along the way there'll be 31 of the most famous and enduring recordings of the period, performed by such legendary names as Denny Dennis; Flanagan and Allen; George Formby; Marlene Dietrich; Tino Rossi; Ethel Smith; the Andrews Sisters; Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra with the Pied Pipers.

Plus Glenn Miller; Vaughn Monroe; Benny Goodman and Freddy Slack (and their respective American Big Bands).
