Mr Pastry

The Story of Slapstick charts the history of the world's most popular comedy genre. Whether you're three or fifty three we all seem to love physical humour. It doesn't matter if they're slapped, banged or walloped, there's a simple glee in the misfortune of others. In this clip we see arguably the most successful slapstick performers of all time. And you may well argue. Mr Pastry was a national telly treasure and this clumsy character creation spanned years and years of broadcasting history pulling in massive audiences. Loved by children Mr Pastry and other shows of the 50's moved slapstick towards a younger audience as many people saw visual comedy as simplistic.
