Winning the Peace in Pakistan
For Assignment Jill McGivering reports from Pakistan on the government's efforts to persuade people to return home to their villages after the intense fighting in the Swat valley.
In this week's edition of Assignment, Jill McGivering travels through Pakistan and hears the stories of those affected by the recent fighting between government forces and the Taliban in the country's North West. In desperately over-crowded homes in Swabi, she meets mutli-generational families who've fled the fighting and sought refuge with strangers - and the hosts who've taken them in and are now struggling to feed them. In Buner, she finds the ruins of a village which was almost destroyed in the conflict - and families now trying to survive in the rubble of their former home.
