Anteaters and armadillos
The giant anteater is one of the most specialised insect eaters on Earth, which explains in part its evolutionary success. The ancestors of both anteaters and armadillos are survivors of an ancient lineage that managed to retain their niche when the land bridge joined North to South America - by eating only ants and termites.
